The Istanbul Jazz Festival’s 19th edition is set to begin on fourth of July with a stellar program. Coordinated by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV), the festival will be opened on July 3 with an award ceremony.

The Istanbul Jazz Festival will be hosting over three hundred local and international artists in fifty concerts till July 19, when it will be closing down with a live performance from British singer Morrissey.

The festival’s 1st concert is July 4 at 9 p.m. at the Marmara Esma Sultan, to be performed by The Jamaican Legends, important instrumentalists from Jamaica on the occasion of the 50th day of remembrance of the country’s independency. The Jamaican Legends feature virtuoso guitar player Ernest Ranglin helping shape the sound of ska as it came out in the 1950s and who rests a highlight of many European festivals throughout the year; The Wailers’ piano player Tyrone Downie; and Sly and Robbie, the prolific Jamaican percussion and production team of drummer Sly Dunbar and bassist Robbie Shakespeare, who are approximated to have played on or produced 200,000 recordings. They’ll be accompanied by Jamaican-English reggae artist Bitty McLean.
