Support for ‘terrorist groups’ should end in order to solve a political solution to the crisis, President Assad said during his meeting United Nations-Arab League Joint Syria Envoy Lakhdar Brahimi, according to Syria news agency. “Countries that smoothes terrorist groups’ entries to Syria and back those groups with money and logistic supports should end those efforts.” He also streesed that any solution to this crisis should be approved by Syrians and free of foreign intervention.
Special envoy Brahimi said that Geneva II conference is aimed to bring all factions of Syrian groups and find a solution to this crisis as soon as possible.
Brahimi has been in Damascus over the last two days, holding talks with government officials for an international conference planned in Geneva to find a political solution to the long-boiling civil war that left Syria in ruins.
Earlier this week, a number of rebel groups voiced their opposition to the meeting unless it results in Assad’s removal from power. Assad had earlier said he might run for president again in mid-2014.
