copyright_aabadoluajansi_2012_20121101074931Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said that his country decided to apply to the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in order to save the peace process with Israel.
Palestinian news agency WAFA on Wednesday announced that Palestine would apply to the UN to save the peace process that was negatively affected after Israel did not abide by international rules and regulations and did not end the construction of residences on Palestinian territory.
In a meeting with the Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics in Ramallah, Abbas underlined that Palestine wanted to obtain the status of an “observer state” within the UN.
Rinkevics, in his part, said that Latvia supported the peace process in the Middle East and the Palestinian people.
We support Palestine so they can reach freedom and establish an independent state, Rinkevics stated.
