Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that UN, UNSC and all other international organizations remained incapable facing the international problems.
Turkish premier and his spouse Emine Erdogan were welcomed by Indonesian President Susilo Pambano Yudhoyono and his spouse at the conference hall where world leaders came together to take part in the 5th Bali Democracy Forum on Thursday.
Forum will be co-chaired by South Korean President Lee Myung-bak and Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard. There are 83 countries taking place at the forum.
Delivering a speech at the conference, Erdogan has said, “Terms of democracy, human rights and supremacy of law do not belong to a specific region nor groups anymore. They became values which are important for the whole world.”
Erdogan touched the sensitivity of Indonesia within the framework of democracy in its region and said, “We, as Turkey, have the same responsibility. We work hard in order to set up a democratic, equitable and fair system in our region and in the world.”
Moreover, Erdogan highlighted the inadequacy of United Nations (UN) and said, “UN is not displaying strength and power over the issues which threaten the future of people. They do not display leadership to fade away people’s fear. We support that the UN has to reform in order to protect the all humankind, consider the values of the international community and restructure the basics of justice. Vision and the structure of the UN have to be renewed.”
He added that UN Security Council at first, and also all other international organizations remained incapable facing the international problems.
He underlined the Syrian crisis and said, “death toll in Syria has reached 50,000. Just in Turkey, there are 110,000 people seek sheltering.”
Erdogan said, “people had to leave their homes and more, they got killed by air strikes. Where is the UN? UN abided by the decision of 5 permanent members. That is why, we support that UN has to renew itself for protecting the law and forming the international community for common values and justice.”
Turkish PM meets several leaders in Indonesia
Erdogan held meetings with several leaders in Bali, Indonesia.
Erdogan is currently in this country to attend the 5th Bali Democracy Forum.
Erdogan’s meetings with Afghan President Hamid Karzai, Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Thailand’s Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra were closed to press.
Later in the day, Erdogan will attend a banquet Indonesian president will give in honor of his guests.
Turkish premier set to visit Brunei
Erdogan will pay a working visit in Brunei on Friday after concluding his talks in Indonesia.
Erdogan is in Bali to participate in the Fifth Bali Democracy Forum on Thursday.
Turkish premier attended the opening of the forum. He is set to deliver a speech at the meeting.
