“Behind the Hill” becomes winner in the 1st Red Tulip film festival

The film “Behind the Hill” directed by Emin Alper received best movie and best director awards in the 1st Red Tulip Film Festival in Netherlands’ Rotterdam province.

Alper could not attend the ceremony in Rotterdam, where his director friends Huseyin Karabay and Dilek Gokcin received his awards on behalf of him, including 8,500 euro money award.

Dervis Zaim’s “Cycle”, Ahmet Sonmez’s “Goodbye Katia”, Cigdem Vitrinel’s “Remained Ones”, Pelin Esmer’s “Observation Tower”, Reha Erdem’s “Jin” and Reis Celik’s “Lal” movies were amongst the competing movies in the festival. Jury stated that “Jin” was left out of assessment for it could not be watched due to technical problems.

Counsellor of Culture and Promotion of Hague Enis Tataroglu stated that they, as the ministry, supported the festival, and expressed his hope to see the festival permanent. “We want this event to become a brand, which contributes to the promotion of Turkish cinema,” he added.

During the Red Tulip Film Festival, which was organized under the umbrella of the Culture and Tourism Ministry and Netherlands-Turkey Cultural Foundation, 26 Turkish feature-length editing, documentary and short films were presented for five days. Famous Turkish actress Demet Akbag also won the “lifetime achievement award” , where the director Erdem Kiral won the “honor award”.
