Sporadic demonstrations enter the third day and are expected to carry on till G8 meeting next week.

protsto-jpg20130613155123A group of anti-capitalist protesters staged a demonstration in central London ahead of next week’s G8 summit meeting in Northern Ireland.

The protesters, some covering their faces with scarves, rallied from Piccadilly Square at 11.30 am to St. James Park, the oldest of the Royal Parks in the British capital.

The almost 1,200-strong police, took extensive security measures during the protest, two days after clashes between a group of demonstrators and police officers resulted in 56 detained. Nine among them were arrested, while twelve are still under detention.

Another group of 50 gathered in front of the British parliament to protest the UK visit of Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Parker and the G8 meeting.

London G8 protests, expected to last throughout the week, see occasional altercations between demonstrators and security officers. London police takes serious steps to maintain security and warn banks and businesses to exercise caution.

World powers will meet at Lough Erne in Northern Ireland for the G8 meeting on 17-18 June.
