Speaker addresses urgent parliamentary seance on August. 14

Turkish parliamentarianParliament Speaker Cemil Çiçek on Wednesday addressed political parties in Parliament to convoke for an over-the-top session on Aug. Fourteen accompanying a request from the main opposition party to adjudge an urgent session to talk over the latest developments concerning to terrorism.

The main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) on Tuesday charged an official request at Parliament Speaker’s Office, calling on the parliament speaker to adjudge an urgent session.

The CHP’s move comes in the aftermath of simultaneous attacks on 4 military outposts in the southeastern province of Hakkari by members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) on Sunday. The attacks left 6 soldiers and 2 village guards dead. 14 terrorists were also killed in clashes with Turkish security forces.

The PKK assaults also come amidst Turkish concerns over emerging Kurdish rule in Syria’s northern cities along the Turkish borderline accompanying the backdown of President Bashar al-Assad’s forces from these preponderantly Kurdish-populated areas to fight confrontation forces in Damascus and Aleppo.

The Turkish Parliament adjourned for summer recess on July 4 and will start a new legislative year on Oct. 2.
