A 15-year-old Dutch boy has been condemned to a year in juvenile custody after he conceded to killing a schoolgirl over a row that looks to have started on Facebook, the social-networking site.
Jinhua K was 14 when he fatally poked Joyce “Winsie” Hau at her home.
Jinhua was further condemned by the courtroom, on Monday in the eastern city of Arnhem, of essaying to shoot down his victim’s father.
The case, acknowledged in the Netherlands as the “Facebook murder”, stimulated widespread debate about the role of social media in fierce crime.
The court told the boy didn’t acknowledge the victim and had murdered her “at the request or instructions of others”.
Dutch media reported that the 15-year-old victim had debated for weeks with 2 friends on the social-networking site before they allegedly demanded the defendant, who was fourteen at the time, to shoot down her.
He was offered a 1,000-euro payment, the media reported.
As well as a year in youth detention, Jinhua faces up to 3 years’ custody in a psychiatric institution.
Jinhua, whose surname isn’t given under Dutch law, excused to the courtroom for his actions. He had debated that he had been put under pressure by the girl and was unable to disobey her.
Experts told he was suffering from a severe behavioral disorder with psychopathic tendencies.
“I’m not happy with annual for my daughter’s life,” her father told outside the courthouse.
“But that’s what the law book tells. We were weak and so were the authorities.”
