Container city has 10 thousand people capacity.
A Saudi Arabian relief organization is set to build a container city near Turkey’s border with Syria to tackle flow of Syrian refugees fleeing the country’s 18-month-old civil war.
Saudi Relief Communities & Campaigns will set up the container city with a 10 thousand people capacity in Turkey’s southern province of Kilis — which houses already nearly 13 thousand Syrian refugees — under an agreement with the Turkish Prime Ministry Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD).
The agreement was penned in a ceremony on Friday held in the Turkish capital, Ankara, by AFAD Chairman Fuat Oktay and Khaled al-Salam, head of the Saudi relief organization.
Speaking at the ceremony Oktay said Syrian refugees in Kilis province were accommodated in twelve tent camps and in one container city, adding that the total number of Syrian refugee in Turkey had reached over 91 thousand and that the country had been doing its best to meet all needs of Syrians staying in camps.
