Turkey-Russia Cooperation at the Forefront

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a strategic phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The conversation focused on strengthening Turkey-Russia cooperation across major regional and global issues. The two leaders addressed the ongoing war in Ukraine, reaffirming the importance of dialogue and diplomacy. President Erdoğan reiterated Ankara’s readiness to mediate, stating that Turkey remains open to hosting peace negotiations. “Turkey is ready to support all peace initiatives, including hosting talks for a lasting and honorable resolution,” Erdoğan said, according to a statement from Turkey’s Directorate of Communications.

Promoting Peace in the Black Sea Region

Another key topic was the security of commercial navigation in the Black Sea. Erdoğan highlighted that protecting maritime routes is essential for broader regional security. He warned against allowing the Black Sea to become a battleground and emphasized Turkey’s commitment to keeping the region peaceful. Such measures, he noted, not only benefit the involved countries but also contribute to global stability.

Joint Approach to Syria’s Stability

The leaders also explored the evolving situation in Syria. Erdoğan underscored the significance of Turkey-Russia cooperation in upholding Syria’s territorial integrity and achieving long-term peace. He voiced concern about foreign influence and attempts to divide Syria along ethnic and sectarian lines. Erdoğan called for Syria’s resources to be controlled by its legitimate government and opposed the continued presence of armed groups like the so-called SDF. “Syria must not serve as a base for terrorist groups,” Erdoğan asserted, urging the lifting of all sanctions and the integration of all factions under the central government.

Looking Ahead: Continued Strategic Dialogue

Erdoğan and Putin agreed on the importance of maintaining open communication channels. Both sides expressed willingness to expand cooperation in facing shared security challenges. The call reflected a mutual understanding of the value of balanced diplomacy. By promoting peace negotiations and addressing urgent regional concerns, Turkey and Russia aim to build a more stable and secure neighborhood. This phone call adds to a series of efforts by Turkey to act as a bridge for peace, dialogue, and regional balance in a shifting geopolitical landscape.
