Israeli Airstrikes Hit Journalists in Gaza

Despite a declared ceasefire, the Israeli military has escalated its operations in the Gaza Strip. A recent airstrike targeted a tent housing journalists near Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis. The strike killed Palestinian journalist Hilmi al-Fakawi and injured 10 others, including nine journalists.

According to eyewitness accounts, al-Fakawi was burned alive inside the tent following the explosion. This brings the total number of journalists killed in Gaza since October 7, 2023, to 210, making this one of the deadliest conflicts for media workers in modern history.

Ceasefire Violated, Death Toll Rising

The airstrike occurred after Israel resumed intense military operations on March 18, breaking the truce established on January 19. In the past 24 hours alone, 57 bodies and 137 injured individuals were brought to hospitals across Gaza.

Since the start of the conflict on October 7, the death toll has reached 50,752, with 115,475 wounded. These figures come from Gaza’s Ministry of Health, which also reported that many victims remain trapped under rubble. Rescue efforts are obstructed by Israeli forces, who are blocking access for ambulances and civil defense teams.

Women and Children Among the Victims

In overnight shelling across Deir al-Balah and other parts of central Gaza, 15 Palestinians were killed, including six women and four children. Another three people died due to artillery fire in the northwest of Gaza City.

In the southern Zaytoun neighborhood, Israeli forces struck two civilian gathering points, killing five and injuring dozens. Additionally, drone attacks targeted Kizan al-Najjar in eastern Khan Younis, resulting in several more injuries.

Media, Civilians, and Justice

The attack on the journalist camp highlights the vulnerability of civilians and press workers in Gaza. Targeting media personnel not only violates international law but also suppresses documentation of human suffering.

As the international community watches, many call for accountability and renewed efforts to establish lasting peace. The tragedy underscores the need to protect innocent lives and uphold the principles of justice and human dignity—values deeply rooted in Islamic teachings, which emphasize the sanctity of life, the protection of truth, and the defense of the oppressed.
