Erdoğan and Macron Push for Ukraine Peace Talks

A New Push for Ukraine Peace Talks

In a recent phone call, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and French President Emmanuel Macron discussed deepening ties and urgent international issues, with a strong focus on Ukraine peace talks. The conversation, according to Turkey’s Communications Directorate, emphasized the need for immediate diplomatic action to address the war in Ukraine.

Erdoğan told Macron the conflict may be at a critical turning point. He urged the international community to act swiftly to pave the way for a just and lasting resolution.

Turkey’s Role in Mediation Efforts

President Erdoğan reaffirmed Turkey’s readiness to mediate between Kyiv and Moscow. He expressed willingness to host future negotiations, offering Istanbul or Ankara as neutral platforms for diplomacy. His stance aligns with Turkey’s long-standing policy of supporting sovereignty while maintaining open channels with both parties.

Turkey’s balanced approach has earned global respect, particularly in facilitating past grain corridor deals and prisoner exchanges.

Strategic Cooperation with France

The call also highlighted the growing importance of Franco-Turkish cooperation in promoting long-term stability. Erdoğan stressed that working closely with France is vital not only for peace talks but also for the eventual reconstruction of Ukraine.

“Joint management of these sensitive processes is crucial,” Erdoğan reportedly stated, emphasizing the shared responsibility of European and regional powers.

A Window of Opportunity

As the war drags on, both leaders acknowledged that global fatigue must not replace action. The time to push for dialogue is now. By promoting Ukraine peace talks, Erdoğan and Macron are attempting to shift global attention toward diplomacy, rather than prolonged conflict.

Their call signals renewed momentum for dialogue—something the world desperately needs.
