An Istanbul court has decided today to call in Turkey’s two former chiefs of general staff to witness in the ongoing “Sledgehammer” coup case.
Ex-army chiefs Gen. İlker Başbuğ and Gen. Yaşar Büyükanıt are to be present at the next hearing on Feb. 27, the court said.
Current gendarmerie commander Gen. Bekir Kalyoncu and retired Gen. Köksal Karabay were also called in as witnesses.
Gen. İlker Başbuğ is currently under arrest in the ongoing “E-memorandum” case which alleges that the Turkish Armed Forces engaged in black propaganda against the ruling government.
