Abdullah Gül to rest at hospital for 5 more days

The Turkish president will rest 5 more days at the Hacettepe University Hospital where he’s getting medical treatment for his repeating ear problem, the rector of Hacettepe University declared on Tuesday.

Rector Murat Tuncer told a committee including physicians from different university hospitals convoked late on Monday to talk about the medical condition of President Abdullah Gül and decided that Gül ought to stay 5 more days at the hospital.

The president was hospitalized on Aug. 23. because of his repeating ear problem. He break short a visit to Kyrgyzstan for the Second Summit of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (CCTS) in Bishkek, a visit he had started last Wednesday.

Gül has delayed all foreign activates in the coming 2 months at the quest of his doctors, who also told his situation was bettering and that he may slowly resume his daily activities.

The president was discharged on Monday afternoon to meet with Chief of General Staff Gen. Necdet Özel, but he brought back to hospital later that day to carry on his medical treatment.

Gül, who went through ear surgery in 2006 at the Gülhane Military Academy of Medicine (GATA) in Ankara during his term as foreign minister, was reportedly advised not to fly too often to avoid a return of the problem. In June, the president’s trips to Latvia and Lithuania had to be cancelled. Gül was also anticipated to visit Sweden on Sept. 9-12.

The Turkish president had postponed trips to Israel, Iraq, Iran, Russia, Italy and Kazakhstan since 2008 due to the repeating ear infection.
