“All decisions taken by Palestine will be supported by the people and the government of Turkey”

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, Mr. Ahmet Davutoglu met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Palestine, Mr. Riad Al Malki who paid a working visit to Turkey on 9 November 2012. At the meeting, bilateral relations between Turkey and Palestine were addressed and Ministers exchanged views on the reconciliation process in Palestine, Palestine’s application to the United Nations as well as regional and international issues.

filistin-destekOn the other hand Foreign Minister Davutoğlu, together with Mr. Mohamed Kamel Amr, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt who paid a visit to Turkey on the mentioned dates attended the dinner for the resident Ambassadors in Turkey given by the Ambassador of Palestine in Ankara on the occasion of the visit by Palestinian Foreign Minister Al Malki. Foreign Minister Davutoglu stated in his speech that he suggested a new campaign with a view to ensuring Palestine to upgrade its the status to “non-member observer state” in the UN during the visit of Palestinian President Mr. Mahmoud Abbas to Turkey and it was agreed to initiative the campaign in Ankara.

“All decisions taken by Palestine will be supported by the people and the government of Turkey” stressed Foreign Minister Davutoğlu. He also added that even Palestine do not become a full member of the UN at this stage, Turkey called for upgrading the status of Palestine to “non-member observer state”. Moreover, Foreign Minister Davutoglu said, “Palestinians still don’t have a legitimate right of governance. A new process should be initiated” reminding that there have been promises given by the UN, the leading global powers and the international organizations to Palestine and some initiatives for solving the conflict have been introduced.

Foreign Minister Mr. Davutoglu said that the hope of sustainable peace, prosperity, security and development for the region would rise if the Palestinian issue was resolved and two-state solution was reached.
