Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan received Yusuf Islam, a prominent convert to Islam who came to Turkey in order to ask for financial support for the construction of a mosque which will be built in Cambridge.

The meeting lasted about an hour. “The Mosque project started with the endeavours of Foundation of Muslim Academics is almost at the end and it will be constructed amid the intellectual hub of the city.” Islam stated.

One of the most important projects of England

He highlighted that after the Central Mosque in London, University of Cambridge Mosque Projects is one of the most important projects in England. Our aim is to  create an atmosphere which enables to integrate and treat both Islamic and Western values together. He said that they are here in the blessed month of Ramadan and came with the hope of getting support from Turkey for this huge and expensive project and they will also meet Turkish government together with other prominent personalities to request support.

Special Places for Children and Education

This project started with the increase in number of Muslim population and incapability of the central mosque to provide enough space for all the Muslim community being the only mosque in London. The new mosque’s capacity is planned for one thousand people. Besides ablution and prayer spaces, playground for children, education centers and morgue will take place. Moreover, within the mosque complex there will be also education and meeting rooms and cafe for the Muslims and Non-Muslim community to spend time together.
