Dariush MehrjuiThe founder of modern Iranian cinema, Dariush Mehrjui, will be come to Antalya as the guest of the 49th Golden Orange Film Festival. Mehrjui is considered a hero of modern Iranian cinema, having directed the seminal 1969 film, “The Cow.”

Mehrjui’s latest film “The Orange Suit” will be shown at the “Masters’ eyes” event of the festival. The film focuses on a photography artist who cleans the city and try to make his soul clean. Mehrjui will attend the screening of the movie, and will watch the film with the “orange suited” cleaning employees of Antalya Municipality.

Mehrjui will also join Akdeniz University students, as a part of workshops organized under the title: “Cinema lessons from masters.”

The one constant in Mehrjui’s work has been his attention to the discontents of contemporary, primarily urban, Iran. His 1999 film “The Pear Tree” has been hailed as the apotheosis of the director’s examination of the Iranian bourgeoisie.

Since “The Cow,” Mehrjui, along with Nasser Taghvaee and Masoud Kimiai, is seen as having been instrumental in paving the way for the Iranian cinematic renaissance, or the “Iranian New Wave.”
