A move by the primary opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) to hold an pressing session in Parliament to talk about the cutting-edge developments related to act of terrorism failed on Tuesday because of the failure to meet the one-third quorum.
Parliament Speaker Cemil Çiçek last week called on political parties in Parliament to convene for an over-the-top session on Aug. 14 upon the CHP’s quest to hold a session to talk over terrorism and Syria-related developments.
Lawmakers from the CHP and the pro-Kurdish Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) were in attendance in Parliament on Tuesday, but the other 2 principal political parties were absent. Both the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) and the opposition Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) earlier announced a reluctance to attend to the session, debating an urgent parliamentary session would further boost the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) to continue with its terrorist activities.
Çiçek’s demand for an over-the-top parliamentary session abided by a request from the CHP to hold a session to talk over terror and Syria-related developments. The CHP’s move came in the aftermath of simultaneous attacks on 4 military outposts in the southeastern province of Hakkari by the terrorists PKK earlier this month. The attacks left 6 soldiers and 2 village guards dead.
