Police in China’s Xinjiang leave 8 dead, after being “attacked”

The police in Xinjiang kills 8 people, who attacked the police station in the region, officals claimed.

The police in China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region killed eight people who attacked the police station on Monday, officials said.

According to Xinjiang government’s news portal Tianshan, nine people attacked the police station with knives and burned a police car in Shache County. Eight people of the group were killed, one of the attackers was arrested and the case is under further investigation, Tianshan said.

An attack on a police station killed 16 people including two police officers on December 17 in the Kashgar province of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in China.

Last month, 11 people were killed in an attack on a police station in Serikbuya township.

One such incident in June left 35 people dead and 139 people have been arrested in recent months.

According to the official count, 200 people were killed in the tensions in the Urumchi province of XinjiangUyghur Autonomous Region of China in 2009. Armed police officers were deployed across the state at the time.

High level security precautions were taken in densely populated areas like Kashgar, Hotan, Ili.

Uyghurs are a Turkic minority primarily inhabiting the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.
