Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has accrued almost eight million ‘likes’ on Facebook, making him the most ‘liked’ leader or government institution in all of Europe, according to a survey undertaken by communications giant Burson-Marsteller.
Erdogan’s closest competitor was the British Royal Family, who tally close to 2.5 million. Following the Windsors was Romania’s President Klaus Iohannis, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and Albania’s prime minister Edi Rama complete.
Beyond Europe, the survey ranks Erdogan as the third most popular leader in the world on Facebook, behind behind President of the United States Barack Obama and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has two profiles.
