Former President Turgut Ozal’s body was reburied in Istanbul with a religious ceremony on Friday.
Ozal’s body was exhumed on October 2 under an investigation conducted by the Ankara Prosecutor and after allegations by Ozal’s family that he was poisoned to death 19 years ago.

Spouse of former Turkish president, Semra Ozal were in tears during the ceremony.
Religious ceremony which took 45 minutes was not photographed as it took place closed-to-press.
Son of Ozal, Ahmet Ozal said that they know that their father had not died due to a “natural cause” and said, “when the time comes, prosecutors will announce the situation.”
Alongside the close family members of Ozal, Secretary General of Turkish Presidency Mustafa Isen, Turkish EU Minister Egemen Bagis and his spouse Beyhan Bagis, Governor of Istanbul Huseyin Avni Mutlu, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Kadir Topbas, first army commander General Yalcin Ataman, Istanbul chief public prosecutor Turhan Colakkadi and Chairman of Institution of Forensic Medicine Haluk Ince attended the ceremony.
Turkish Forensic Medicine Institute took samples from the mausoleum and remains of Ozal and is preparing a report to publish in two months about the possible cause(s) of Ozal’s death.
Ozal had died in 1993.
