Trilateral Ministerial Dialogue Mechanism was established among Turkey, Azerbaijan and Georgia

The First Trilateral Meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, Azerbaijan and Georgia was held on 8 June 2012 in Trabzon.

Mr. Ahmet Davutoğlu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, Mr. Elmar Memmedyarov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, and Mr. Grigol Vashadze, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia attended to the meeting where the parties exchanged views on the possibilities of developing bilateral and regional cooperation on the issues of common interest to all three countries.

Following the meeting, Foreign Ministers signed “Trabzon Declaration” concerning the course of action aiming at strengthening the cooperation among three countries. Within this framework, the Parties decided to set up a joint experts group to draft an action plan for 2013-2015 to be presented for approval to the three Ministers.

Speaking at the joint press conference, Foreign Minister Davutoğlu stressed that the cooperation of these three countries forms a basis for important projects which connect Caspian Sea, Black Sea and Mediterranean. He also added that the trilateral mechanism provides a significant opportunity to transform the Black Sea, the Caucasus and the Caspian region into a field of peace, stability and prosperity. Moreover, Foreign Minister Davutoğlu emphasized that the trilateral mechanism does not exclude any country or party.

Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan, Mr. Memmedyarov expressed his belief that the existing cooperation will further improve through these meetings. Foreign Minister of Georgia, Mr. Vashadze stressed that the trilateral cooperation mechanism established among the three countries can set a good example for everyone.

The second meeting of the trilateral mechanism of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, Azerbaijan and Georgia will be hosted by Georgia in Batumi.
