Turkey’s Alleged Military Base Plans in Syria
The Turkish Ministry of National Defense (MSB) has responded to claims about establishing a military base in Syria. MSB sources stated, “A joint roadmap will be created based on the new Syrian government’s requests. This aims to enhance the Syrian army’s capacity with concrete steps.”

Official Statement from the Ministry
At a press briefing in Kars, Rear Admiral Zeki Aktürk, the Ministry of National Defense spokesperson, addressed the issue.
Following the meeting, MSB sources responded to questions about Turkey’s alleged plan to establish two military bases in Syria. They emphasized Turkey’s key goals: maintaining Syria’s territorial integrity, ensuring stability, and preventing terrorist activities, especially by the PYD/YPG in northern Syria.
Turkey’s Support for Syrian Stability
MSB officials stated that Turkey supports the new Syrian government’s stabilization and normalization efforts. “We are ready to provide all necessary support within our ministry’s scope,” they said.

They also mentioned an initial meeting between a Turkish defense delegation and Syrian officials. Both sides agreed on key priorities: protecting Syria’s territorial integrity, ensuring stability, and eliminating terrorist threats.
“It Is Too Early to Discuss Such Matters”
MSB urged caution regarding media reports. “Approaching these reports carefully and understanding their context is essential. Discussions on this matter are premature,” they noted.
The ministry affirmed Turkey’s commitment to working with Syria’s new government. A joint roadmap will guide efforts to enhance the Syrian military’s capacity, followed by concrete steps.
