Turkey urges Russian companies to take part in creation of new natural gas storages

Turkey intends to store up to 15 percent of the gas used in the country in underground storage facilities in the future. In this regard the country plans to increase the number of storage facilities, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz told on Saturday.

taner-yıldızThe minister said that Turkey would like to see Russian companies in the project on the construction of new natural gas storage facilities.

“Turkey needs gas storage facilities with storage capacity of 7-8 billion cubic meters of gas. Turkey would like to see Russian companies in projects on creation of new storage facilities” Yildiz said.

Turkey has developed a project to create a second underground storage, which will end in 2019.

Gas storage facility, which will be established under Lake Tuz, will consist of 12 wells, and will have a storage capacity of one billion cubic meters.

The project worth $640 million will be implemented by the Chinese company China Tianchen Engineering Corporation.

At present there is one gas storage facility in Turkey in Silivri oil company capable of containing 2.6 billion cubic meters of gas owned by TPAO.
