Multiple Operations off Izmir Coast
The Turkish Coast Guard carried out several operations near Izmir province, rescuing 36 irregular migrants and detaining 84 others. The incidents took place off the districts of Çeşme and Seferihisar, according to an official statement posted on the Coast Guard Command’s website.
In Çeşme waters, Coast Guard units responded to a distress call from a rubber boat that had suffered engine failure. The vessel, drifting without power, carried 36 migrants, including seven children. All were safely brought to shore.
Mobile Radar Detects Migrant Boat
In the same area, Coast Guard mobile radar systems identified another rubber boat carrying 40 irregular migrants, including two children. Teams intercepted the vessel and detained those on board.
This operation highlighted the crucial role of technology in monitoring migration routes across the Aegean Sea, where irregular crossings remain frequent despite heightened patrols.

Land Operation in Seferihisar
Meanwhile, in Seferihisar district, authorities received reports of migrants in the area. Anti-smuggling units of the Coast Guard, working in coordination with the Izmir Gendarmerie Command, launched a joint operation.
The teams detained 44 irregular migrants, including 11 children. The operation underscored the ongoing collaboration between Turkish security agencies in addressing irregular migration and human smuggling activities.
Two Suspects Arrested for Smuggling
During the Seferihisar operation, authorities also arrested two suspects accused of organizing migrant smuggling. Legal proceedings have been initiated.
Following standard procedures, the irregular migrants were handed over to the Izmir Provincial Migration Management Directorate, while the suspects were transferred to gendarmerie custody.
These actions form part of Turkey’s broader efforts to combat human trafficking networks while ensuring the safety of vulnerable migrants.
