Turkey’s Call for International Responsibility
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has urged countries to repatriate their nationals among Daesh terrorists imprisoned in Syria. Speaking alongside Belgian counterpart Bernard Quintin in Ankara, Fidan emphasized the importance of collective efforts to ensure regional security.
Fidan highlighted that the new Syrian administration must take control of Daesh camps and prisons to prevent further destabilization. Turkey, he affirmed, stands ready to support this process, reflecting its ongoing commitment to regional stability.
Turkey’s Role in Protecting Syrian Minorities
The Turkish government continues to advocate for the protection of minorities in Syria. Fidan underscored Turkey’s humanitarian approach, recalling its role as a sanctuary for Syrians fleeing oppression during the Assad regime.
“Turkey did not hesitate to welcome refugees seeking safety from Assad’s brutality. It will remain a protector of vulnerable groups in this new era,” Fidan stated.
This sentiment aligns with Turkey’s broader strategy of fostering peace while supporting displaced communities and advocating for their rights under the new Syrian leadership.
Eliminating Terrorist Threats in Syria
Fidan reiterated Turkey’s firm stance against terrorism, stating that groups like Daesh and the PKK/YPG have no place in Syria’s future. Ankara demands the immediate removal of all terrorist elements from Syrian territory to pave the way for stability and reconstruction.
The PKK/YPG, which attempted to exploit the Syrian conflict, has faced setbacks in recent months. The Syrian National Army (SNA) successfully repelled their advances, capturing key strongholds such as Tal Rifaat and Manbij. Despite backing from the United States under the pretext of combating Daesh, the PKK/YPG’s attempts to integrate into the new Syrian military framework have been met with resistance.
Turkey’s Strategic Role in Syria’s Transition
Turkey has been a pivotal player in Syria’s conflict, securing territories in the northwest and fostering alliances to stabilize the region. The collapse of the Assad regime has opened a new chapter in Syria’s history, marking the end of a brutal era that displaced millions and caused immense suffering.
As Syria begins its transition, Turkey’s role as a regional stabilizer and humanitarian leader will remain central. Fidan’s call for international cooperation to repatriate Daesh terrorists underscores the global responsibility to prevent further violence and rebuild a peaceful future for Syria.
