Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan will focus their efforts Tuesday on helping people affected by the wrath of Hurricane Sandy.

gopticket-nevada-16_9_r722_c720x400The GOP presidential ticket canceled its scheduled campaign rallies out of sensitivity for the millions of people in the storm’s path. An estimated 6.2 million people on the Eastern Seaboard are without power after the storm and at least 17 deaths have been confirmed.

Romney, the GOP presidential nominee, will be joined by race car driver Richard Petty and country singer Randy Owen at what is billed as a “storm relief event” in Kettering, Ohio.

Ryan, Romney’s running mate, will thank volunteers in his home state of Wisconsin who are collecting supplies to help those in need. Ann Romney will also be participating in storm relief events in Wisconsin and Iowa.

USA TODAY’s Jackie Kucinich is traveling with the Romney campaign and will have more later.
