The easing of sanctions on Iran following Sunday’s deal to curb some of Iran’s nuclear activities will create a positive atmoshere in the region, says Turkish FM Davutoglu.
Turkey considers the deal on Iran’s nuclear program an important step and positive development while there may be those who are not content with it, said Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on his visit to Bahrain’s capital Manama to hold official talks.
Iran agreed on limiting some of its nuclear activities in exchange for eased sanctions with the P5+1 countries, the five permanent members of the United Nations (UN) Security Council- the US, UK, France, Russia and China- plus Germany, in Geneva on Sunday.
“This was an expected development,” said Davutoglu. “Such a demand is important to build mutual confidence…Sanctions on Iran also damage Turkey’s economy. Easing sanctions will also have a positive impact on Turkey as well as creating a positive atmosphere to ease tension in the region.”
The international powers are concerned that Iran is trying to build a nuclear weapon but Iran insists its program is peaceful.
The deal made on Sunday will last for six months and parties will seek a permanent agreement.
