Turkey’s Diplomatic Push for Peace Intensifies in Moscow
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan reaffirmed Turkey’s commitment to peace diplomacy during a key visit to Moscow. His meetings with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and President Vladimir Putin spotlighted Turkey’s strategic role in mediating regional crises—from Gaza and Syria to the Russia-Ukraine war.
These high-level talks reinforced Turkey’s position as a stabilizing actor amidst growing global polarization.
Gaza Crisis: Turkey Urges Immediate End to Violence
At a joint press conference, Fidan condemned the continued violence in Gaza, describing it as a humanitarian catastrophe. He warned that the situation could spiral into uncontrollable chaos affecting the entire region.
“This much blood, tears, and pain cannot remain without consequences,” he said.
“If the violence continues, not even Israel will escape the coming chaos.”
Lavrov echoed these concerns, calling the events in Gaza “unacceptable” and reaffirming Russia’s support for Palestinian statehood. Both ministers stressed urgent international action.
Syria: Coordinated Steps Toward Unity and Stability
Turkey and Russia reaffirmed their joint stance on Syria’s future. Fidan emphasized that both nations would continue working to preserve Syria’s territorial integrity and promote political and economic stability.
He highlighted progress made in recent months and criticized efforts to distort perceptions of the Syrian government. He also urged stakeholders to respect the March 10 agreement, crucial for long-term peace.
“Our aim is a prosperous Syria, free from foreign interference and internal strife,” said Fidan.
Russia-Ukraine Conflict: Turkey Ready to Host Peace Talks
Turkey reiterated its offer to host renewed peace talks between Russia and Ukraine. Fidan recalled the successful prisoner swap following negotiations in Istanbul and expressed hope for more diplomatic breakthroughs.
“We hope talks will rapidly lead to a ceasefire and a lasting peace,” he noted.
President Erdoğan’s consistent efforts to promote peace have given Turkey credibility as a neutral mediator. Fidan confirmed that Ankara remains ready to assist all parties in future dialogue.
Trade and Energy: Bilateral Ties Remain Strong
Fidan also met with the Russian-Turkish Business Association, stressing the importance of keeping economic ties robust despite global tensions.
Key projects like the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant and energy supplies from Gazprom to BOTAŞ remain top priorities. Fidan underscored Turkey’s commitment to advancing cooperation in trade, tourism, and investment.
“We want to deepen our relations, unaffected by geopolitical challenges,” Fidan said.
Regional Coordination: From Black Sea to the Middle East
Fidan emphasized Turkey’s willingness to collaborate with Russia on wider regional security, including maritime navigation in the Black Sea and stability across the Middle East.
“Turkey is ready to support all peace-focused processes,” he concluded.
The Moscow talks signal Turkey’s active role in shaping a more peaceful, balanced regional order. Through peace diplomacy, Ankara aims to inspire hope in troubled areas by fostering mutual respect, justice, and dialogue.
